I have to be honest, since i arrived in Madrid i didn’t really pay much attention to what was going on in politics. But last week there was a big debate between the two most important candidates to the parlamentary election coming up this month, on the 20th. I got home one day and one of my roomate was watching the debate on TV and the other one was listening to eat while cooking in the kitchen…
So what’s up Spain?
Well, right now Zapatero (PSOE, Socialist party) is in charge and he was supposed to stay until March 2012 butdue to the crisis and the presure of the oposition (PP, Popular Party among others) he decided to organize anticipated election.
In May, there was the municipal and regional elections and the PP clearly won over the PSOE.
Today, the representatives of the two main party, Mariano Rajoy (PP) and Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba (PSOE) are fighting hard. Spain is really suffuring from the crisis and what’s at stake is huge.
